National Missing Children's Day - A Day of Remembrance

Do you know the average age of a child who is abducted and murdered is 11 years old? In 2022, over 15,555 children were reported missing in Ohio and more than 800,000 children are reported missing in the United States annually. Fortunately, most of these children return home safely. Sadly, however, some do not. A parent’s worst nightmare is for their child to go missing. The cases of missing children also have a huge impact on the local communities and schools.

Every year the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Ohio Missing Children Clearinghouse, located in the Attorney General’s Office, take time to commemorate the valiant and unselfish acts of the many organizations and individuals who bring our missing children home.

National Missing Children’s Day is recognized every year on May 25; and we pause to focus our attention on children who have been recovered, as well as the children who are still missing.

This year, Canal Winchester Human Trafficking Club, in conjunction with the Canal Winchester Youth Human Trafficking Club, will be holding a Missing Children’s Day event at the Canal Winchester Oley Speaks Auditorium, 100 Washington St. Canal Winchester, 43110. It will be held on Saturday May 13, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We have also reached out to several local law enforcement agencies for their participation.
