FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Columbus, GA — June 27, 2024
COLGAY PRIDE, in collaboration with New Horizons Mental Health, is proud to announce the observance of National HIV Testing Day on June 27th. This vital event aims to raise awareness about HIV, promote testing, and empower our community with knowledge and resources.
Key Statistics:
HIV Incidence in the United States (2021):
There were 32,100 estimated new HIV infections in the U.S. during 2021.
Notably, gay, bisexual, and other men who reported male-to-male sexual contact accounted for 70% of these new infections, emphasizing the importance of targeted outreach and education within our LGBTQ+ community.
People reporting heterosexual contact accounted for 22% of new infections, highlighting the need for comprehensive awareness and testing efforts across diverse populations.
People who inject drugs represented 8% of new infections, underscoring the importance of harm reduction strategies and accessible testing services.
Why Get Tested?
