National Day of Reason 2022 at the State Capitol

Join us to commemorate the National Day of Reason, which honors the principles of secular government and separation of religion and state that have guided our country since its founding. We observe this day to remind lawmakers that public policy should be based on reason, science, and evidence to promote the general welfare.

Three humanist organizations are sponsoring an event that will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the State Capitol. You are invited to attend the entire time or to drop in when you can. (Continental breakfast will be available throughout the morning.*) We are inviting all legislators to attend and some have already said they will be there. We will update the agenda as we get more confirmations.

*As long as food lasts.

Agenda:

8:30 a.m. Doors open. Help yourself to breakfast.

9 a.m. Remarks by humanist leaders and other supporters of the Day of Reason.

9:30 a.m. Mingle with attendees, visit tables of groups that have endorsed the event.

10 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Keynote speech by Rachel Deitch, Policy and Social Justice Director at the American Humanist Association. Remarks by Sen. John Marty, Reps. Tina Liebling and Mike Freiberg, and other legislators.

10:30 a.m. Fill out postcards to deliver to your legislators urging them to uphold secular values.

Yes, if you want breakfast. We need to know how much food to order.
