This is a free event, co-sponsored by the City of Palm Springs' Human Rights Commission, Queer Works, and the Palm Springs Public Library. After a national anti-LGBTQ+ hate group bullied a young transgender girl in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, her community rallied behind her by hosting a community reading of "I Am Jazz" by transgender advocate Jazz Jennings. Every year, in honor of the Mount Horeb community’s allyship, communities across the country join the Human Rights Campaign's Welcoming Schools program for its annual National Day of Reading: A Celebration of Stories Supporting Transgender and Non-Binary Youth. While the current climate of our nation can make it difficult to instill positive change and provide the necessary support for our LGBTQ+ students, we want to focus and uplift the fact that there are many supportive organizations, such as ours, places of worship, schools and people who continue to show up for our transgender and non-binary youth. Please join Mayor Grace Garner, Jeannie Kays, Director of Library Services, Jacob Rostovsky, Founder & CEO, Queer Works and others, as they read to those young and young-at-heart, to join our community together to advocate for the human rights of transgender and non-binary youth and ensure that every child has the support needed to thrive and be their whole self in their school and community.
