National Day Celebrations at the National Museum: Myths, Legends & the Stories That Made Us

Celebrate Singapore’s 61st birthday at the National Museum of Singapore and rediscover the Myths, Legends & the Stories That Made Us. Journey through founding legends, explore the rich tapestry of cultures that call this island home, and celebrate our shared living traditions through immersive storytelling, workshops, performances, and family-friendly activities from 1 August. 

Now in its fourth edition, the Migrant Workers Photography Festival makes its way to the National Museum of Singapore for the first time. Our Favourite Haunts: Through the Lens of Migrant Workers brings together the winning entries and finalists in a photography showcase, inviting you to see Singapore’s familiar spaces through the lens of the migrant community who help shape this city we share. 

In the evening, the museum’s facade comes alive with Voyage of Icons, a multisensory projection mapping work by visual artist Howie Kim. Presented in collaboration with HeritageSG as part of Light Together Bras Basah.Bugis 2026, this vibrant illustrative artwork traces Singapore’s journey across five worlds – from the founding legend of Sang Nila Utama to a dazzling vision of hyper-modern Singapore. 

Anchoring this year’s celebrations is a full day of dynamic programmes on 9 August. From a heritage hunt, workshops and drop-in craft activities – there’s something for everyone. Visitors can round off the day at the Museum’s Front Lawn to catch live performances and the live telecast of the National Day Parade 2026, framed by the sunset and the iconic façade of the National Museum. 

All visitors can enjoy free admission to the National Museum on 9 August 2026, including entry to special exhibitions Once Upon a Tide: Singapore’s Journey from Settlement to Global City and Singapore Odyssea: A Journey Through Time.
