About this Event

The National Competition in Organ Improvisation seeks to further the art of improvisation by recognizing and rewarding superior performance in the field. A flourishing tradition of improvisation is fundamental to a truly vital musical culture.

The 2024 NCOI began last fall with the initial Application Round which was conducted by recording. The five semifinalists have been selected to play in the Semifinal Round on June 28, 2024: Jerrick Cavagnaro, Ethan Haman, Alexander Leonardi, Chase Loomer, and Nicholas Quardokus.

Three finalists will compete in the Final Round (the names of the finalists are not known at the time of publication).

The first-prize winner will receive $5,000 funded by John-Paul Buzard Pipe Organ Builders, Champaign, Illinois; and a CD recording on the Pro Organo label and a promotional video, both distributed by Naxos of America.

This event is free to the public. Tickets are not required.
