Az orgona sok egyéb mellett azért is nagyszerű, mert „a hangszerek királynőjének” nemcsak hatalmas repertoárja van főként barokk, romantikus és 20. századi művekből, de számtalan regisztere jóvoltából a hangszínek tömegét képes előállítani, s így egyfelől zenekari művek is remekül megszólaltathatók rajta, másfelől a zongorarepertoár egy-egy jeles darabja új megvilágítást kaphat, ha orgonán hangzik fel. Részben erre épül a fiatal amerikai orgonaművész izgalmas és változatos műsora, amely német, magyar és francia műveket kínál.
Milyen lehet Wagner grandiózus alkotása, a Tannhäuser-nyitány - orgonán? És vajon hogyan szólal meg Liszt fausti problémákat körüljáró, filozofikus zongoraműve, a virtuóz h-moll szonáta a számtalan sípot megzendítő, ezer színt felvonultató hangszeren? Megtudhatjuk a fiatal amerikai művésztől, akit a Westfälische Nachrichten 2019-ben így méltatott: „korosztálya egyik legjobb orgonaművésze az Egyesült Államokban”. A chicagói születésű, harmincnégy éves Nathan Laube 2013 és 2020 között a New York-i University of Rochester kebelében működő Eastman School of Music professzora volt, ma pedig a Stuttgarti Állami Zenei és Előadó-művészeti Egyetem orgonafakultását vezeti. A világjáró muzsikus műsorán nem csak Liszt remekműve képviseli a magyar zenét: meghallgathatjuk előadásában az 1984-ben született Magda Dávid ősbemutatóként elhangzó Akheron című kompozícióját, amely a Müpa 2020-as Zeneműpályázatán díjazott darabok egyike. A program két 20. századi francia opusa, Elsa Barraine és Jehan Alain egy-egy kompozíciója is minden bizonnyal újdonság lesz a magyar zenehallgató számára. Olyan orgonaestet hallhatunk tehát, amelynek valamennyi műsorszáma különlegesség.

One of the many factors that make the organ so great is, apart from the huge repertoire of mainly Baroque, Romantic and 20th-century works written for the "queen of the instruments", the huge variety of tones it is able to produce thanks to its numerous registers. This means, on the one hand, that it can be used to perform orchestral works, and on the other hand, that a significant portion of the piano repertoire can be perceived in a new light if played on an organ. It is partly on the basis of this feature that the young American organist Nathan Laube developed his exciting and varied programme offering an assortment of German, Hungarian and French works.
How might Wagner's grandiose Tannhäuser overture sound on an organ? And how does Liszt's philosophical piano work addressing Faustian problems, the virtuoso Sonata in B minor, sound on the instrument, with its countless pipes and thousand colours? We can find out from the young American artist whom the Westfälische Nachrichten praised in 2019 as "one of the finest organists of his age in the United States.” Born in Chicago, the 34-year-old Laube served as a professor at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York from 2013 to 2020, and today heads the organ faculty at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. Liszt's masterpiece is not the only piece representing Hungarian music on the globetrotting musician's programme: he will also perform the world première of Akheron, one of the winners of Müpa Budapest's 2020 music composition competition, by Dávid Magda, who was born in 1984. Also featured are two 20th-century French works, one by Elsa Barraine, the other by Jehan Alain. Both are certain to be new to Hungarian music listeners. So this is a chance to hear an organ concert in which each number is a special one.
