This December, your host Nate Butler will not only guide you through the history of silent cinema with LIVE piano music, but also explore the histories of Santa Claus AND Ebeneezer Scrooge! It’ll be fun, you’ll see!
We’ll see a cornucopia of short Christmas-themed silent movies, including Laurel & Hardy’s classic about the bizness of selling Christmas trees “Big Business” (1929), “Santa Claus vs. Cupid” (1915), “The Adventure of the Wrong Santa Claus” (1914), the Polish-Russian stop-motion animation curio “Rozhdyestvo Obitatelei Lyesa” (‘The Insects' Christmas’ featuring real insects, 1911), plus the 1898 “Santa Claus” by George A. Smith (a former magic lanternist and hypnotist who was something of an English Georges Méliès), and only Santa knows what else will happen. Ho ho ho!
