Natasha’s Voice Recital: Lullabies, Laments & Songs of Hope
— Second-Year Classical Voice Recital —
Please join me for my second-year classical voice recital at the University of Otago, where I study under Dr Tessa Romano. I will be performing alongside piano accompanist Tom McGrath.
I’ll be presenting a varied programme spanning over 300 years of music, exploring themes of love, loss, sorrow and hope through Baroque arias, opera, art song and Yiddish music.
Programme:
* Henry Purcell – When I Am Laid in Earth, Dido’s haunting lament from the opera Dido and Aeneas.
* J.S. Bach – Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust, a beautiful and reflective sacred aria.
* W.A. Mozart – Smanie implacabili, a dramatic concert aria filled with passion and turmoil.
* Edward Elgar – Sea Slumber Song, a lyrical and atmospheric song from Sea Pictures.
* Gian Carlo Menotti – The Black Swan, a haunting lullaby from the opera The Medium.
* Hirsh Glick – Zog Nit Keyn Mol (Never Say), a Yiddish song written in 1943 that became an anthem of Jewish resistance during the Holocaust.
I’m looking forward to sharing this music and would love to see you there!
