DOUGLAS returns to the Broadway@Birdland spotlight, and her hit TRIBUTES series with “TRIBUTES: ‘70s SOUL”.
Natalie is thrilled to celebrate Black History Month with her longtime friend & Music Director, BRIAN NASH (Silence! The Musical, Audra McDonald, Jennifer Holliday), and band as they debut an exciting program exploring the soul music of this singular decade. One of the great indigenous American art forms, soul music blends traditions from jazz, gospel, rock, and R&B to create a unique expression of emotion from a particularly Black American perspective. Through this lens, Natalie & musicians will travel the decade from bell bottoms to “Dyn-O-Mite!” to sky-high Afros to hot pants to disco & Watergate - these symbols of the “Me” generation heralded great musical, cultural & social transformation, including iconic tunes by artists such as Roberta Flack, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Donna Summer, The Commodores, & of course, a few unforgettable “one-hit wonders.” Can you dig it?
