The Nashville Saxophone Section pays tribute to the late Denis Solee, a cornerstone of the Nashville music community remembered for his soulful tone, deep groove, and remarkable versatility across jazz, R&B, funk, and roots music. A revered presence on the city’s stages and in its studios for decades, Solee performed with touring artists, local legends, and countless recording projects. This special evening celebrates his enduring legacy - through the voices of the saxophonists who knew him best - and the warmth, expressiveness, and musical spirit he passed on to generations of musicians.Matt Davich has been a free lance woodwind player in Nashville since 1978. He has been a member of the Nashville Jazz Machine, Nashville Jazz Orchestra and has performed Broadway and artist shows at TPAC as well as symphonic and pops performances and recordings with the Nashville Symphony. His work includes many recordings and jingles as a session musician.
Don Aliquo has been active on the Nashville Jazz scene for over two decades beginning with his appointment as Professor of Saxophone at Middle Tennessee State University. He has recorded six solo CDs playing with artists such as Roger Humphries, Jim McNeely, Rufus Reid, Obed Calvaire and Harold Danko. Don regularly performs at Rudys with a variety of local and nationally known artists.
Zicky Hart is a versatile saxophonist from Hattiesburg Mississippi. He attended Middle Tennessee State University as Graduate Teaching Assistant and is now a successful free-lance saxophonist and educator in Nashville.
Dan Hitchcock is a saxophonist originally from Columbus Ohio, and has lived in Nashville for four years. Since moving to Nashville, Dan has had the opportunity to perform at jazz festivals across the country and tour far and wide with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox. Dan has also become a staple of Nashville’s vibrant jazz scene, where he performs with a wide range of ensembles.
Brian Williams is a veteran woodwind player from Los Angeles, where he was very active in the music scene for 45 years. He was a member of the Tom Kubis, Bill Holman, and Bernie Dresel big bands, and worked as a professional musician at Disneyland for 35 years. He moved to the Nashville area last spring and is enjoying getting to know and play with the musicians here.
Bruce Dudley is a Steinway Concert Artist and has been performing jazz piano for over 40 years. He specializes in the Great American Songbook, as well as in the rich history of American jazz styles, from Ragtime and Stride to Modernism, Post Modernism, and performance of original music. Dudley has also performed with artists Aretha Franklin, Crystal Gayle, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Herb Ellis, Randy Brecker and many more, and has played keyboards for over 35 touring Broadway shows, including Beautiful, Wicked, Jersey Boys, Guys and Dolls, Grease, Fiddler on the Roof, Legally Blonde, among others.
Bailey Johnstone is a Nashville-based bassist known for his strong time feel, melodic sensibility, and versatility across jazz, blues, and roots-oriented music. A sought-after collaborator on the city’s live scene, he brings a deep sense of groove and musicality to every performance.
Chris Brown is one of Nashville’s top session and most sought-after jazz drummers. His first professional big band gig was with the Maynard Ferguson Band, played with Don Grolnick, among many others and tours with Sam Bush.
This show is all ages. $5 extra charge to be collected at door for anyone under 21 years of age
