Please join local PETA supporters to urge the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC) to stop torturing animals in cruel experiments in attempts to make human health claims for marketing blueberries to consumers.
PETA has urged the Secretary of Agriculture to prohibit what amounts to an exorbitant “tax” on farmers, who must pay hundreds of millions in annual fees to agricultural commodity research and promotion boards (known as “checkoffs”)—like the USHBC, and others—which use some of these funds for deadly animal tests. Some of these experiments supported by the checkoffs involve douching, poisoning, force-feeding, starving, irradiating, bleeding, suffocating, beheading, and dissecting animals.

The USHBC funded an experiment in which rats were fed strawberries or blueberries then forced to perform a series of psychomotor and cognitive tests (including grabbing wires while suspended, walking and balancing on accelerating rotating rods, and swimming in a maze). They were repeatedly injected with a chemical then killed and dissected.

These tests are neither applicable to humans nor required by law. Importantly, animals are scientifically unfit for human food research in part because of the vast physiological differences between species.

HERE ARE THE DETAILS:
