We’re honored to kick off the second annual Virginia Queer Film Festival with a free screening of THE PEOPLE’S JOKER, a renegade resurrection of funnybook camp and a miracle of copyright kung-fu. Multi-hyphenate troublemaker Vera Drew will beam in for a Q&A following the film to talk about the triumphant release of her scrappy coming-of-age comedy, which New Yorker critic Richard Brody called “The best superhero movie I’ve ever seen.”
---
“This revolutionary DIY parody film and hilarious reimagining of the classic autobiographical coming-of-age story follows an unconfident, closeted trans girl as she moves to Gotham City to make it big as a comedian. When mainstream success eludes our heroine, she unites with a ragtag team of rejects, misfits, and a certain love interest named Mister J, "Joker the Harlequin" is born again as a confident (and psychotic) joker on a collision course with the city's fascist caped crusader.” - Altered Innocence

The Virginia Queer Film Festival provides access to films by, for, and about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people and their families, and a forum for LGBTQ+ filmmakers to share and discuss their work with audiences.
