NARDIV TALK – What is Artistic Research?
The event explores artistic research as a method of knowledge production and as an emotional game changer in relation to minority experiences, with particular relevance for European cultural policy and social cohesion.
Bringing together perspectives from art, theatre, and literature, the discussion will present diverse approaches to artistic research, with a strong focus on its societal impact, its potential for audience engagement, and its contribution to inclusive narratives across Europe.
📅 Tuesday, 23 June 2026, 18:00
📍 Goethe Pavilion Bucharest
Speakers:
Roxana Lăpădat, artist, theatre director, and doctoral researcher
Nicole Colin, Full Professor of German Studies at Aix-Marseille University
Elise Wilk, writer and university lecturer
Moderation:
Joachim Umlauf
Concrete case studies will be presented, including Rimini Protokoll’s project Future4 and the East–West exhibitions developed within the EU Horizon project NARDIV. These examples illustrate how artistic research operates at the intersection of artistic practice, social participation, and knowledge transfer.
What can artistic research achieve — that is, the combination of artistic and scientific methods — that “art alone” or “science alone” cannot?
How can it generate new forms of knowledge, foster empathy and mutual understanding, and contribute to more inclusive, participatory, and cohesive European societies?
This talk is part of the NARDIV Summer School 2026 and the EU-funded project NARDIV – United in Narrative Diversity? (2024–2026).
The talk will be in German.
