About this Event
This Parade is in alignment with a month full of Juneteenth events and is designed to commemorate the rich heritage of African Americans to the Nashville legacy. Individuals like James C Napier, Callie House, Tony Sudekum, Frederick Douglass, Diane Nash and more. On June 5th 1897, African American community of Nashville held a Parade in Centennial Parkā¦ It was called the Negro day parade. This was inspired by the words and motivation from historical leader Frederick Douglass when he visited the city back 1873 (8 years after the emancipation proclamation).
Donations will go towards expenses for the event. Any excess donations will be contributed to the South Nashville Sanctuary Fund, a fund dedicated to serving the residents from neighborhoods of South Nashville. The neighborhoods we are focused on in 2023 include 37210 & 37212 area codes, in particular residents of the J.C. Napier Houses, Tony Sudekum Houses, and Edgehill Houses.
