Caring for a loved one with a mental illness is a journey that can feel isolating—but you don’t have to walk it alone.

Mental Health Recovery Partners – Central Island (MHRP CI) offers this free, recurring in-person caregiver support group for parents, partners, adult children, and friends navigating the complexities of mental health right here in Nanaimo.

Why Join Our In-Person Support Group?

Our face-to-face meetings provide a safe, non-judgemental space to connect with other local families who truly understand what you are going through.

• A Safe & Private Space: We meet in a confidential setting where you can speak openly without hesitation or fear of stigma.
• Lived Experience: Groups are led by skilled peer facilitators who have walked similar paths and understand the unique exhaustion of caregiving.
• No “Expert” Pressure: There are no definitive answers here—just a supportive community that listens, validates, and offers encouragement.

Who We Support

Whether you have been supporting your loved one for days or decades, we welcome families dealing with a wide range of mental health challenges, including:

• Mood Disorders: Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, or Depressive Episodes.
• Psychotic Disorders: Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, or Psychosis.
• Trauma & Anxiety: PTSD, OCD, and severe Anxiety Disorders.
• Complex Conditions: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Substance Use (concurrent disorders), or Anosognosia (lack of insight into their illness).

Meeting Details & Attendance

Taking the first step through the door is often the hardest part, but you will be met with warmth and understanding.

• Cost: Completely Free / Community-funded.
• Registration: Registration via Eventbrite helps us anticipate numbers, but you are always welcome.
• Participation: Share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. Listening is completely okay.
