Under årets Copenhagen Jazz Festival inviterer Nana Benz du Togo til en sommervarm og grænseopløsende fest på ALICE. Med rødder i togolesisk tradition og blikket rettet mod både klubkultur og global funk, forener gruppen afrobeat, voodoo-ritualer og DIY-opfindsomhed til en intens liveoplevelse. Fans af grupper som BCUC og 80’ernes dansable no wave à la ESG vil føle sig hjemme, når Nana Benz du Togo indtager scenen.

Nana Benz du Togos musik går direkte i hjertet og fødderne! Med galopperende grooves på en 100% DIY-rytmesektion af genbrugstrommer og en karakteristisk PVC-rørbas, samt fængende, visionære call-respons-fraser, har de markeret sig på den internationale scene som en gruppe man skal holde øje med. Efter deres anmelderroste debutalbum “AGO” fra 2023 og to stærke europaturnéer er Nana Benz du Togo nu klar med deres næste kapitel. Det nye album “SÉ NAM” (2025) dykker endnu dybere ned i gruppens musikalske og politiske univers. Her flettes tematikker som feminisme og klima sammen med den togolesiske voodoo-traditions tonesprog – båret af stærke vokaler og pulserende rytmer.
Indspillet i det legendariske OTODI-studie i Lomé har de nye sange fået en skarpere, mere nutidig produktion, der forstærker bandets organiske groove uden at miste den rå nerve. Digital voodoo, kalder gruppen det selv. Resultatet er da også en tidløs trance, hvor deres imponerende hjemmelavede instrument-setup sender associationer til både tidlig house og techno. As part of this year’s Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Nana Benz du Togo invites you to a sun-soaked, boundary-pushing celebration at ALICE. Rooted in Togolese tradition while drawing on club culture and global funk, the group fuses afrobeat, voodoo rituals and DIY ingenuity into an electrifying live experience. Fans of acts like BCUC and the danceable no wave of ’80s groups like ESG will feel right at home when Nana Benz du Togo takes the stage.
Nana Benz du Togo’s music goes straight to the heart—and the feet. With galloping grooves driven by a 100% DIY rhythm section of recycled drums and a characteristic PVC pipe bass, and infectious, forward-thinking call-and-response chants, they have established themselves internationally as a band to watch. Following their critically acclaimed debut album AGO (2023) and two strong European tours, the group now enters a new chapter. Their upcoming album SÉ NAM (2025) dives even deeper into their musical and political universe, weaving together themes of feminism and ecology with the tonal language of Togolese voodoo traditions—carried by powerful vocals and pulsating rhythms.
Recorded at the legendary OTODI studio in Lomé, the new songs feature a sharper, more contemporary production that amplifies the band’s organic groove without losing its raw edge.
