NAIJA STREET DANCE WITH TOMTOM

TomTom is a Nigerian-born dance performer, choreographer, and multi disciplinary artist currently based in Michigan, USA. He is a founding member of Westsyde Lifestyle, a pioneering collective instrumental in the rise and global recognition of Afro-urban culture in Lagos, Nigeria.

Beginning his artistic journey at the age of 15, TomTom has cultivated a distinctive dance language that draws deeply from Nigerian street dance forms such as “Konto” and “Shaku”, seamlessly blending them with Afro-diasporic influences including Hip-Hop and Afro-Caribbean movement styles. His vigorous yet fluid choreography reflects a deep cultural lineage, fused with a contemporary and unorthodox sound aesthetic that embodies the essence of Afro-fusion.

Renowned for his expressive, free form movement and cultural storytelling, TomTom has performed and choreographed for internationally acclaimed artists such as Yemi Alade, Major Lazer, and Wizkid. His dynamic style continues to influence the global Afro dance scene.

In addition to his work as a performer, TomTom is a respected educator, curator, content creator, and event organizer, contributing to major international Afro dance camps and festivals. Through these platforms, he shares his expertise and passion with emerging dancers and artists around the world.

Today, TomTom is recognized as a leading figure in the Afro dance movement and a cultural ambassador for Naija street dance. His contributions were recently highlighted in the Red Bull Dance Your Style documentary, cementing his status as a global force in contemporary African dance.
