Experience the rich traditions and contemporary expressions of Indigenous culture as we begin with a Traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony on the picturesque Rivergarden lawn next to Felons Barrell Hall. Immerse yourself in the soul-stirring sounds of a live didgeridoo performance, setting the tone for the enriching day ahead.
Moving inside Barrell Hall, you’ll wander through the space and explore the thought-provoking art installation curated by Birrunga Gallery, specially crafted for NAIDOC Week.
As the afternoon progresses, we'll gather for a yarn between Trent Wallace and Birrunga Wiradyuri, whose conversations will focus on NAIDOC Week’s themes and their takes on the last year. Lunch will feature a fusion of native ingredients and contemporary cuisine.
Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate Indigenous Culture, art, and community during NAIDOC Week 2024. Join us for a day of reflection, inspiration, and appreciation, as we honour the theme: Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud!
This year's theme honours the resilient spirit of Indigenous Communities and urges everyone to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.
The fire symbolises the enduring resilience and vibrancy of Indigenous Cultures, passed down through generations despite adversity. It represents a deep connection to Country, to one another, and to the vast array of traditions that shape Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
"Blak, Loud and Proud" embodies the bold celebration of Indigenous identity, empowering First Nations Peoples to embrace their heritage confidently and assert their presence in contemporary society. This theme advocates for reclaiming narratives, amplifying voices, and upholding justice and equality unwaveringly. It invites all to listen, educate themselves, and engage in meaningful conversations, fostering a society that fully recognises and respects the wisdom and contributions of Indigenous Peoples.
