About this Event

Please join the Netherland-America Foundation (NAF) DC chapter for a panel discussion on the NAF Fulbright Program for students in the year that the world-wide Fulbright Program celebrates its 80th anniversary.

The panel will feature NAF-Fulbright alums Dr. Christward Gradenwitz, Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission in the Netherlands, and Prof. Michael Douma, historian and professor at the Georgetown Institute for the Study of Markets and Ethics. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Alexander van der Horst, Chair of the NAF Education Committee.

Topics will include the impact and importance of exchange programs such as the (NAF) Fulbright Program, the challenges or hurdles that exist, and an outlook to the future.

This event is in person, and there will be ample time for attendees to participate in the discussion.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas.

The NAF-Fulbright brings scholars from the Netherlands and the United States to exchange in each other’s respective country to pursue opportunities to study, conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. This exchange follows in the NAF’s mission of strengthening ties between the two countries. Since the partnership between Fulbright and the NAF began, nearly 600 students and researchers have traveled from the US to the Netherland or Netherlands to the US for an academic exchange, producing experts across all disciplines.
