Imagine stepping away from reality for a learning retreat where the natural world becomes your teacher...Join Dr Ihirangi Heke and health and physical education teachers from across Aotearoa for this unique health and physical education PLD to explore how movement, wellbeing, and the environment connect in ways that can make learning meaningful for every student.
The Atua Matua framework (Māori knowledge system) helps teachers understand wellbeing holistically, through relationships with people, place, and culture.
No prior knowledge of Māori language or worldviews is needed; curiosity and a love of learning are all that’s required.
Across four unforgettable days you’ll:
🔸Discover practical ways to link movement, wellbeing, and the natural world in your teaching.
🔸Learn how to integrate mātauranga Māori and Māori health concepts into education and organisational contexts.
🔸Hike the Routeburn track, kayak and experience hands-on learning in nature that inspires fresh ideas and approaches.
🔸Gain confidence to integrate cultural and environmental perspectives into your practice in meaningful ways.
🔸Connect with other teachers and heads of department across New Zealand to bounce and gain new ideas.
