About this Event

Welcome to Mākua University!

Come join us for two days of building, learning and engagement at Our Lady of Kea'au and Mākua Valley.
Mākua University will bring community, leaders, ohana, and organizing efforts together for the purposes of cultivating, redefining and re-envisioning the future of Mākua Valley. Mākua means parents and we intentionally chose Mothers Day weekend to honor Mākua Valley, the birthplace of Kānaka.

This gathering will expand our knowledge about Mākua's history and future by building upon the shared values of aloha 'āina among attendees and our collective pīlina and mana to make things right, now.
Whether you're a seasoned scholar on Mākua or just curious about how to help Mākua or want to learn more about an emerging and evolving coalition, Friends of Mākua, there's something here for everyone.
On Saturday, we will meet and greet at Mākua in front of the gate from 7:30am-8:30am to commence our Aloha Circle and Grounding ceremony.

At 8:30am, we will head back to Our Lady of Keeau for breakfast. From breakfast, we will host workshops, trainings, panel discussions, kanikapila, and coalition building exercises. We will also be providing childcare, food, and excellent opportunities for networking life after empire as we ho'i ho'i Mākua.
Early Sunday morning, we will greet the sun at Mākua Valley and spend time to again ground ourselves, but this time, from inside the gates of Mākua where we will honor some of the sacred sites therein. We will then have lunch with plans to finish by noon so folks can spend Mother's Day dinner with loved ones.

The specific Agenda for the gathering is forthcoming and will be made available for registered attendees. Please note that this event is by invitation only, so please reach out to the organizer(s) if you have comments, concerns and/or questions.
Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to grow and connect. Be sure to RSVP & let us know if you have any dietary restrictions. We commit to creating a welcoming and powerful space for all our attendees and 'ohana.

We hope to see you there!
