About this Event
Màiri Morrison & Alasdair Roberts with Pete Johnston
Màiri Morrison and Alasdair Roberts will be touring in October 2025, in celebration of their new album with Canadian producer Pete Johnston and friends, Remembered in Exile: Songs and Ballads from Nova Scotia (Drag City Records).
Drawing on the pioneering work of Nova Scotian folklorist Helen Creighton (1899-1989), who collected traditional songs on Canada’s eastern seaboard, Remembered in Exile features ten songs with Scottish roots: musical artefacts of the westward journey undertaken by Scots as they migrated to Canada from the 1600s to the mid-1800s.
A native of the Isle of Lewis, Màiri takes the lead on a handful of Gaelic language songs, mostly collected in Cape Breton, while Alasdair leads on some Canadian variants of the types of Scots ballads for which he has become well known. The duo will be accompanied on tour by a band of Canadian and Scottish musicians, including producer and musical arranger Pete on double bass.
Remembered in Exile is by turns genial and playful, sombre and brooding. It constitutes a fine and fitting follow-up to Urstan, Màiri and Alasdair’s first album together, charting new waters and reforging the longstanding bond between old Scotland and Nova Scotia.
