Mystic Sticks: A Hand-Rolled Incense Making Workshop
About this Event
In partnership with Sheena Hanscel of the Pollen Patch Columbus, Mystic Sticks is a hands-on incense-making workshop rooted in ancestral knowledge and sensory ritual. Participants will learn to blend, bind, and roll their own personalized incense while exploring the spiritual and cultural significance of scent across diasporic traditions.
As part of The Urban Arts Space Artist Commune series and in collaboration with the Sacred Spaces Collective, these offerings nurture creativity, embodiment, and communal care through intentional making. Check out more events in the series here: https://www.sacredspacescollective.com/events
Each guest will:
• Craft three hand-rolled incense sticks
• Work with natural materials like makko, resins, spices, and botanicals
• Choose their own scent combinations based on purpose and energy
• Explore how herbs, woods, and resins burn and what they symbolize
• Receive a recipe card + intention card to take home
• Learn sustainable sourcing, safety, and drying methods
This class is hands-on, sensory, and designed for anyone who wants to create with meaning. You’ll leave with three beautiful incense sticks and one powerful ritual tool.

Parking Garages:
There are three parking garages near Urban Arts Space, as well as metered street parking. If you are coming to the Space for an evening event or program, most street parking is available after 6pm but spaces are limited. Recommended parking garages include:
-Ohio Statehouse Parking Garage (Enter from westbound Broad Street or from Third Street). We recommend the Ohio Statehouse Parking Garage on Third Street when accessibility is a concern.
-Riffe Center Parking Garage (Enter from Front Street)
-Columbus Commons (City Center) Parking Garage
