About this Event
COPE Accredited CE Activity for Optometrists!
Myopia presents complex, lifelong management challenges that span the anterior and posterior segment. This comprehensive two-hour course brings together a professor of optometry, a retina specialist, and a cornea and refractive surgeon to provide an integrated, clinically practical approach to caring for myopes—from myopia control to surgical decision-making and retinal risk management.
Optometric myopia expert, Dr. Mark Bullimore, will review the latest evidence-based strategies for myopia management, including emerging optical treatments such as H.A.L.T. (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target) technology and Essilor's new FDA-approved Stellest lens. Participants will gain an understanding of mechanisms of action, key clinical data, patient selection criteria, and how to incorporate these therapies into everyday practice to slow axial elongation and reduce long-term risk.
Retina surgeon, Dr. Dagmara Danek, will then explore the pathophysiology of high myopia and its associated retinal complications, including myopic maculopathy, peripheral degenerations, tractional changes, and risk of retinal detachment. She will provide practical guidance on clinical monitoring, imaging, risk stratification, management strategies, and clear referral guidelines to retina.
Lastly, corneal specialist, Dr. James Tian, will conclude with a comprehensive review of refractive and surgical options for high myopes, including LASIK, PRK, SMILE, implantable collamer lenses (ICL), and clear lens exchange. This segment emphasizes indications, contraindications, risks, and long-term considerations, reinforcing the importance of careful patient selection and counseling to optimize visual outcomes while protecting ocular health.
Attendees will leave with immediately applicable clinical pearls, improved confidence in managing high myopia across the continuum of care, and a clearer framework for comanagement and referral.
