Mycelium is a weekend retreat for art, spirit, and co-creation. Hosted at St Oswald’s Church in Glasgow by a partnership of local Churches, it’s a space designed to bring artists and creatives together to dream of what we might be able to achieve if we combine and collaborate. What does art that seeks to be part of a spiritual practice look like? How might art be part of a creative response to injustice? How can we facilliate and support those who seek to make art of this kind? These are the conversations we feel are desperately important just now, and we would love you to be part of them.
We are using mycelium as a prompt and inspiration, in the way that it suggests connection, interdependence, subterranean subterfuge and our deeper inclusion in a kind of goodness that seems impossible.
We are looking for ideas, pieces of art, poetry, music, dance, sculpture – anything that explores this theme. We want to create a temporary gallery and open some performance spaces to celebrate and display them.
The weekend has several elements. On Saturday, we have the gift of a day to talk together, to make art and to exchange ideas. If you want to be part of this you will be welcome- use the form below to reach out and we will be in touch.
On Saturday evening we will have a celidh full of dance, poetry, story telling and song. This will be in the hall at Kings Park Parish Church. For more information or tickets get in touch on this number 07470 345829 or using this e-mail address [email protected]. The ceilidh will be a free (although if you can, you would be welcome to donate towards our costs.)
On Sunday we will open our space to the wider community in Glasgow, inviting others to respond to some of the art, and sharing food together This will start with worship at Kings Park Parish Church at 11AM, followed by a community meal and open day at St Oswalds which will include live raku pottery firings and a chance to engage with art installations.
We think there is an desperate need for art to collaborate with faith stories and concerns around social and climate justice. Those of us who understand this importance are often isolated. This is a chance to connect.
