My Underground Mother with Marisa Fox
About this Event
Twenty years after her mother’s death, filmmaker Marisa Fox discovers a hidden truth: Tamar had survived the Holocaust and spent her life concealing it. Her search uncovers the largely untold experiences of Jewish women in Nazi forced labor camps—including persecution, resistance, sexual violence, and survival. Through rare archival materials and survivor interviews, My Underground Mother brings these silenced stories to light and reminds us why remembering the past matters today.
Marisa Fox is an award-winning journalist and filmmaker whose work has appeared on FX, WNET, VH1, MTV, CNN, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Haaretz. Her decade-long investigation into her mother’s hidden Holocaust history inspired a women’s Holocaust memorial and a digital exhibition of survivor testimonies with the USC Shoah Foundation. A National Magazine Award winner and Northwestern University graduate, Fox is now writing a book about her journey to uncover her mother’s past.
