Honoring Gabriela Silang

This year’s honoree is the legendary Filipina anti-colonial revolutionary Gabriela Silang, who commanded rebel forces in their 1700s anti-colonial war against the Spanish in the Philippines region of Ilocano. Silang organized guerrilla networks of indigenous Itneg communities and led a network of women who worked in close proximity to colonial Spanish forces to gather intelligence that would contribute to guerrilla anti-colonial attacks.

My Heros Have Always Killed Colonizers pays tribute to the legendary Center for Political Education event of the same name from the mid-2010s, revived in collaboration with some of its original organizers and artists. Original lettering done by @solomemehood.
