A friend to music everywhere, My Friend Shawn is the musical project of Daeshawn Ureña-March- a 23-year-old Dominican and African-American songwriter hailing from the 305 and is a champion of Miami’s local music scene. Shawn's influenced by artists like Chance The Rapper, Tyler, The Creator, and Mac Miller and has managed to create an oddly satisfying blend of hip-hop and indie-folk to paint his world in the only ways he sees fit. After releasing his 2024 alternative EP, “,” and being recognized by popular publications such as Pigeons and Planes, Shawn has developed his "indie rap" sound by opening for fascinating crowds across sold-out shows in NYC's most profound venues- such as The Mercury Lounge and SOB's- and has pushed the boundaries for what an independent artist with no budget can do. With plans to make My Friend Shawn a project that breaks new ground for other colored artists and inspiring creators, growing alongside his work in the process, Shawn aims to create a comfortably numb auditory and visual world filled with childlike wonder and mystery!
