About this Event

Overview:

Mx. Juneteenth is a space for reverence, remembrance, and celebration for the Juneteenth holiday. In that, it is space that adheres a Black queer feminist politics that centers abolition, community, solidarity with all oppressed communities, and anti-bigotry. This space explicitly promotes an environment of respect, civility, and liberation that is free of harassment and police presence.


Mission:

Our mission is to create a safe, liberatory, communal event to honor the special holiday of Juneteenth by adhering to a Black queer feminist framework & praxis.


Vision:

To foster a collaborative environment to honor our ancestors, encourage community support, and express joy.

Code of Conduct

On safety and security:


This space is one that values safety and security for all attendees. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendees, performers, vendors, sponsors, exhibitors, booth staff, volunteers, and anyone else is strongly encouraged to practice social distancing and wear a mask. Although, the enforcement of masks will only take place on the stage and in the green room.


As previously stated, Mx. Juneteenth is a space free of police presence. If an attendee, performer, vendor, sponsor, exhibitor, booth staff, volunteer, or anyone else has a concern regarding safety and security during the event, they should get in contact with a member of the leadership or a volunteer for assistance.


On matters of health concerns, the affected party should visit the medical tent staffed by trained medical professionals and/or trained volunteers.


On technology:


We strongly encourage attendees, performers, vendors, and volunteers to capture the liberating joy of Mx. Juneteenth with pictures and videos and share with friends, family, and on social media. However, flash photography is prohibited.


On respect:


While at Mx. Juneteenth, or engaging with Mx. Juneteenth virtually, or any related ancillary or social events, any attendees, performers, vendors, sponsors, exhibitors, booth staff, volunteers and anyone else should not engage in harassment, violence, or harm in any form. That includes respecting the space of those around you, respecting speakers and performers by being attentive and tipping when necessary (e.g. drag performances), and NOT calling the police.


This is a family-friendly event! Community members of all ages are welcome at Mx. Juneteenth. There will be a designated area specifically for our youth.


Performer Etiquette

Here are the holy commandments of attending a Drag Show:


1.Thou shalt tip thine Performers.


2.Thou shalt be an active audience member.


3.Thou shalt keepeth thine hands to oneself.


4. Thou shalt remember who the performer is. Hint: It’s not you.


5.Thou shalt have fun.
