Join us for the screening of the new documentary MUXE: The Language of Art & Culture, featuring an introduction and Q & A with producer and director Hugo Ximello-Salido.
The film documents Ximello-Salido's efforts to learn about Muxe culture, appreciate its singular history and contemporary expression, and to help share its beauty with the world. The film illustrates the director's artistic journey through the perception of gender fluidity in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, directly connecting with his artistic approach through 2D and 3D artwork.
The screening is presented in commemoration of Pride Month as well as the exhibition A Layered Presence / Una presencia estratificada, which features Ximello-Salido’s Muxe sculptural work along with 21 other local artists with cultural ties to Latin America.
Enjoy a pre-reception event before the film in Bloch Lobby, with food and beverage available for purchase and a live performance by local Mariachi musicians.
