About this Event

Calling all inspired wāhine.

Maramataka Series

This Spring, I am holding a series of women’s circles inspired by the energies of the Māori lunar calendar. Each crafted with authenticity and beauty as we engage in ancient feminine practices as we move our dreams into new realities.

About Cleo

Nau mai and welcome. My name is Cleo Shortland and I hail from the Far North (Ngāti Hine) and the East Coast (Ngā Ariki Kaiputahi) of Aotearoa. I live with my 10 year old son in Kerikeri where I craft rituals from my cottage before travelling and sharing these with inspired women to experience and enjoy.

The circle - Mutuwhenua ritual for women

You can expect a warm and friendly welcome when you arrive and it’s encouraged to come up to 15 minutes early. We begin with karakia, which grounds us in our safe and sacred circle, officiating the beginning of the ritual.

We will move into the magical energy of Mutuwhenua, the Dark Moon and the last day before we move into the new. Mutuwhenua invites us to look at the parts of ourselves that we repress and don't allow others to see. An opportunity to breath into ourselves. To rest.

Through kōrero, guided visualisation, journaling and invitations to share, we gain a deeper understanding of what this means for us and taking this into the evening’s ritual, which threads in the power of Mutuwhenua into our dreams, wishes and heart’s desires.

After our transformative journey, we are brought back to the every day with karakia and then moving into relaxed conversation with nourishing refreshments to promote a restful sleep.

What to bring?

  • If you would like some inspo on how to dress: think celebration, movement and comfort when seated.
  • Bring a journal and a pen

Housekeeping

  • We don’t consume drink or food during the ritual (refreshments are served following the ritual when we move into relaxed conversation).
  • Porotaka wāhine (women's circle) are sacred spaces and the experiences and words shared in the space remain in the space.
  • There’s free 24/7 street parking on St Benedict’s Street from Kenkō to Newton Road, typically busy only during work hours.
