1982 changed the face of popular music forever when recently launched Channel 4 began broadcasting The Tube.Kids in their early teens had no means to explore underground genres until that point with most gigs being limited to over 18s and apart from the odd performance from acts outside the Top 40 on the likes of The Old Grey Whistle Test, Riverside, Oxford Road Show or Something Else, there was no regular means to see anything leftfield. John Peel was too late for most kids and even then, you didn’t see what bands looked like which was a big part of the 1980s so every Friday at 6pm, you’d sit in front of the TV, ready to discover so much new music.
Take a trip back to 1982 with a special extended Mutant Movement from 8pm on Saturday 3rd Dec, lasting a whopping six hours until 2am!!!
