"Passionate, detailed music-making is a hallmark of Marlboro performances." The New York Times
Each Marlboro Music touring program is formed around summer performances that co-artistic directors Mitsuko Uchida and Jonathan Biss feel achieved a particular dynamism.
Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Shulamit Ran (b. 1949) was in residence at Marlboro in 2018 and worked extensively on her music with these artists in Vermont. Alternating between contemplation and ecstasy, Ran’s Moon Songs for soprano, flute, cello, and piano are at the center of this program, which includes Mozart’s Divertimento, a singular work that achieves “something special in the way of art, invention, and good spirits.”
Program:
Haydn: String Trio in G Major, Op. 35, No. 1
Ran: Moon Songs
Mozart: Divertimento in E-flat Major, K. 563
Kristina Bacharach, soprano
Giorgio Consolati, flute
Joseph Lin, violin
En-Chi Cheng, viola
Brannon Cho, cello
Matt Zalkind, cello
Lydia Brown, piano
