"Passionate, detailed music-making is a hallmark of Marlboro performances." The New York Times
Each Marlboro Music touring program is formed around summer performances that co-artistic directors Mitsuko Uchida and Jonathan Biss feel achieved a particular dynamism.
The Musicians from Marlboro touring program has been lauded as a “virtual guarantee of musical excellence” (Washington Post). Some of the most outstanding Marlboro performances from recent years, including Kurtág's rarely performed duo for soprano and double bass, "The Notebooks of G.C. Lichtenberg," share this program with compelling contemporary works by Amy Beth Kirsten and past Marlboro participant Paul Wiancko.
Program:
Mendelssohn: Two Pieces fro String Quartet, Op. 81
Wiancko: Benkei's Standing Death
Kurtág: Duos for Soprano & Double Bass from "The Notebooks of G.C. Lichtenberg"
Kirsten: yes I said yes I will Yes
Beethoven: String Quintet in C Major, Op. 29
Lucy Fitz Gibbon, soprano
Alexi Kenney, violin
Lun Li, violin
