Musicals by the Book brings classic stories bursting from page to stage, from the heartfelt journey of Oliver! to the dazzling world of The Great Gatsby! With big songs, bold characters, and plenty of theatrical flair, you'll be hooked on every word. It’s a lively, feel-good celebration of books brought to life through music and performance.
Stories do more than just transform us to other places and times. They let us step into the hearts and minds of people we would never meet, in situations we can only dream of. Through stories, we learn what it is to be human. Musicals by the Book explores the power those stories have with a 21-song journey of musicals based on famous books. Some of them you know... but some might surprise you!
Through the show you’ll experience a range of tales from the well known - such as Oliver! to newer tales such as The Outsiders. We chose to feature The Great Gatsby for its timeless exploration of ambition, love, and the pursuit of a dream—themes that resonate just as strongly today as they did a century ago—brought to life with dazzling music and Jazz Age spectacle. In contrast, Matilda captures the wit, resilience, and imagination of childhood, reminding us that even the smallest voices can spark extraordinary change. Together, these sections show us how a book can be more than just a reader’s companion.

Established in 2022, Encore! Musicals Berlin e.V. is Berlin's first English speaking Musical Theatre Verein. Our members come from all over the world and are united in our love and passion for all things musical! Past performances include Little Shop of Horrors (October 2025), Heroes & Villains (January 2025), Next to Normal (June 2024), The Wedding Singer (October 2023), I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change (February 2023), and Musicals Through the Ages (September 2022).
