January 7th - January 28th, 2025This 4 week intermediate CI series is designed for those with a solid embodied understanding of the fundamentals and who wish to explore musicality in contact improvisation.
Dance and music have been inextricably linked throughout history.
Contact improvisation initially was practiced without music and then early on there was experimentation of CI with live improvised music.
Today some people practice entirely without music, some with recorded music and some collaborate with musicians who are co-creating in the improvisation.
In this series we will use both recorded music as well as access our own internal sense of musicality to open up new creative possibilities.
Specific themes we will play with include:
Flow, rhythm, melody, timing and momentum
Conscious awareness of breath to support musicality
Use of different genres of music and how it can elicit different emotional qualities and creative possibilities in CI
Prerequisites: permission from instructor and a solid embodied understanding of contact improvisation principles
