The final concert in this season’s Musical Moments recital series at the Geneva Public Library will take place on Friday, May 10 starting at 7:30 p.m. in the library’s reading room. It will feature the Onyx Clarinet Quartet. The concert will last approximately an hour and is free and open to the public. The program is titled "Meet the Family" as four sizes of the clarinet family will featured, Eb soprano, Bb soprano, Alto, and bass clarinets. It will include works by Mozart, Bach and Beethoven, but also composers of current clarinet classics, Bela Kovacs, Patrick Hiketick, and jazz greats Luiz Bonfa, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ben Bernie, and Marco Pinkard.
Based jointly in Syracuse and Rochester, Onyx is the musical partnership of Laurie Dobmeier, Terryann Gerber, Alan Woy and Roxanne Woy. Laurie, Terryann, Alan, and Roxanne are all veteran music educators who have been connected with each other personally and professionally in a number of different ways for many years.
The Onyx Clarinet Quartet was launched in 2010. Since then the group has developed an eclectic repertoire that ranges from classical to popular music, which they have been pleased to share with audiences throughout New York. Alan is retired from the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam, and currently teaches at the Eastman Community Music School and in the New Horizons program. Laurie and Terryann currently teach in the Baldwinsville School District. Roxanne formerly taught music in the Norwood-Norfolk School District and at St. Lawrence University. Additionally all four have performed professionally and taught private clarinet lessons for many years.
