Note there are three musical classes this term. We skip the bank holidays in May - they are on 29th Apr, 13th and 20th May
How do you create a song in-the-moment? How do you make a harmonious sound with others while making up lyrics on the spot? How do you find the beat, the rhyme, and the tune? Like all good improv, it starts with listening. Listening to the piano. Listening to others. Listening to your heart. Your really BIG HEART, because music is all about emotion.
These are fun and inspirational classes led by Ian McLaughlin, Bev Fox and Jon Szunko. They are aimed at School of Improv students who want to enrich their improv practice (or students with credible experience or training from elsewhere).
They're recommended for Improvers, Headway, and Advanced students who are confident improvisers who want to take it to another level. You'll need these particular fundamental skills and principles of improv: saying yes to and building on each other's ideas, being brave and taking risks, and being generous and supportive. You don't need to be a good singer. If you consider yourself a good singer or musician, you may feel confident with musicality, but you need to have these improvisers' qualities and be supportive of others who may have less musical dexterity than you. Come with the intention of making others look good and it will pay in dividends.
The classes are all about discovering joy through 'live songwriting' by having fun and emotionally connecting with yourself and others - not who has the best voice!
Get ready to start on time with a vocal warm-up, skills-drill, and then get into fun musical games and scenarios.
