Musical Improv - 2 hour Drop In for Beginners
About this Event
MUSICAL IMPROV DROP-IN
Sing. Play. Make It Up.
Think you can’t do musical improv because you’re “not a singer”? Think again.
In this fun, fast-paced 2-hour Musical Improv Drop-In, you’ll discover how much easier it is to make up songs when you stop trying to write them — and start improvising them.
Taught by INNY Award-winning improv teacher Bill Chott, a founding member of Chicago’s Cleff Notes — the first improvised musical, a founding member of Opening Night: The Improvised Musical, and a performer with Baby Wants Candy at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Whether musical improv is brand new to you or you’re looking to sharpen your skills, you’ll learn practical techniques you can use immediately.
IN THIS 2-HOUR DROP-IN, YOU’LL EXPLORE:
🎵 How to start singing without knowing where the song is going
🎤 Simple tools for creating lyrics on the spot
🔁 Repetition, patterns and choruses that make songs feel like songs
🎭 Using character and emotion to fuel your music
👂 Listening and supporting your scene partners
😂 Classic musical improv games and exercises
🚀 How to stop planning and trust what comes next
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A GREAT SINGER.
Musical improv isn't about hitting every note perfectly or coming up with brilliant rhymes.
It's about listening, commitment, storytelling and play.
And sometimes the imperfect rhyme, unexpected lyric or completely ridiculous musical choice is exactly what makes the moment work.
No prepared songs. No sheet music. No pressure to be perfect.
Just show up ready to play.
READY TO SING BEFORE YOU THINK?
