About this Event
Children's book author Christina Shawn will read her book LUCAS PLAYS and invite kids to try out the instrument! Come get a personalized copy of the book and pre-order her upcoming title, AND THEN CAME YOU. Although everyone is welcome, this event is especially for kids in pre-school and K-5.
Let's go on a magical musical adventure together! We will make connections between music, books, and our lives. We will explore our imagination while listening to different types of music. We will read LUCAS PLAYS and learn about the violin. Together we will generate ideas that we can play with. Maybe some of them will turn into stories of your own!
About LUCAS PLAYS
Lucas loves to play cars, monsters, superheroes, and space invaders, but what he loves to play most is his violin. With every note he plays, his imagination soars, creating a world filled with quirky aliens and snoring monsters. Join Lucas on his musical imagination adventures!
About AND THEN CAME YOU: WHEN FAMILIES GROW, LOVE GROWS TOO
Families grow and change, but what if you aren't ready to welcome in a new parent, puppy, or baby sister? Change can be scary. But even a full heart has room to grow. At turns hilarious and heartwarming, this endearing picture book shows there is always room for more love in a family - even if some family members drool. Coming April 22, 2025!
About the Author
Christina Shawn is a reading specialist, literary coach, and author who writes heartfelt and humorous stories about magical moments in our everyday lives. She is the author of picture books AND THEN CAME YOU (Maydani, Chronicle Books, April 22, 2025) and the upcoming NO LOVE POTION (Miller-Gass, The Little Press, 2026) and LUCAS PLAYS (Yu, 2017). Her current projects focus on early literacy foundations while helping children feel seen, heard, and understood. Christina lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband, three kiddos, and two fluffy bunnies, who provide a constant supply of support, humor, and inspiration. She loves yoga, beach bike rides, mountain hikes, and adventuring to new places. Mostly, she loves the spark of learning something new and passing it along.
