What is ‘butt rock’? According to the Urban Dictionary it’s “a sub-genre of hard rock strongly influenced by post-grunge and nu metal. Originating in the mid-late 90s, butt rock is comprised of raspy vocals backed with radio-friendly guitar riffs, drum beats, and basic bass lines.” Supposedly the term comes from a radio station that played this kind of music and advertised itself as playing “nothing BUT rock.” When Music Trivia at City Barrel returns on Monday, May 6th, we will test your knowledge of Butt Rock, in addition to the usual broad categories of questions about music history.
Half the questions are audio questions, so in addition to testing your musical knowledge you'll get to listen to a lot of different songs as part of the game. This week we’ll be listening to some dance remixes of popular hits, as well as lots of cover versions. We will also have at least one Mystery category, where players will try to guess the connecting thread within a series of songs.
The fun starts at 7pm and ends around 9pm. Come early to get a good table and enjoy the excellent beer selection. Buy-in is $5 per person, but new players play for free. Your host this week will be Steve Alleman.
