This Months Special Musical Guest: Temple Avenue Jazz Quartet
Temple Avenue is a Lancaster-based jazz group started in 2011 by pianist Colin Mekeel, then a junior in high school, and his friends who were enrolled in Temple University's prestigious jazz program.
Today, the group is comprised of professional musicians in their late 20s and early 30s - including several Temple graduates. The ensemble is in high demand for playing concerts, dances, receptions and other events across southcentral PA, putting its own spin on familiar jazz standards from the Great American Songbook as well as lesser-known musical gems.
Leading the quartet are vocalist Jillian Ashcraft and vocalist/trumpeter John Dimase, both Philadelphia residents and Temple grads. They're joined by Lancaster residents Colin Mekeel (piano) and John Gingerich (bass).
