About this Event

In honour of World Peace Day, BC’s Women Wage Peace supporter group -- together with co-sponsor Canadian Memorial Centre for Peace -- is delighted and excited to invite you to view the inspiring film Knowledge is the Beginning followed by a time for reflection and discussion in small groups.

This 115-minute documentary tells the story of the creative collaboration between Israeli musician and peace activist Daniel Barenboim and Palestinian philosopher and peace activist Edward Said, who together established the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in 1999. Young musicians from Israel, Palestine, and other Arab and Muslim countries continue to meet every summer for rehearsals, followed by international concert tours. Through its work and existence, the orchestra continues to demonstrate that bridges can be built to encourage people to listen to each other.
