This week at Father Hennepin Bluff Park we are hosting Mary Strand & The Garage, a rock pop band. Mary Strand & The Garage began when Mary recorded her first (solo) album in 2022-23 with her two guitar teachers (Ryan Smith of Soul Asylum, Ultrabomb, and The Melismatics, and Mark Wade of The Melismatics and The Mood Swings) and her son, Jack Strand (of Outta Coentro), on drums. (But note: Stevie Frisbie will instead be on drums on August 26!) The band has found a distinct sound playing the songs Mary writes. Mary's second album released in August 2025 and includes a song she wrote with Ryan and a song she wrote with Mark. The band's sound is a mix of rock, garage rock, punk rock, and power pop. Mary's single biggest influence in rock is Joan Jett, but she loves ALL types of rock and pop. For cancellations due to weather please check our Facebook page for updates. Since 1892, Music in the Parks has provided residents and families opportunities to gather and enjoy local music throughout the summer. Since its inception thousands of free concerts have taken place. Concerts are weekly and vary from classic rock, hip hop, international, funk and many more genres of music.
