Since 1892, Music in the Parks has provided residents and families opportunities to gather and enjoy local music throughout the summer. Since its inception thousands of free concerts have taken place. Concerts are weekly and vary from classic rock, hip hop, international, funk and many more genres of music.
This week at the Lake Harriet Bandshell we are hosting the Linden Hills Chamber Orchestra, a non-profit Twin Cities community orchestra that plays classical arrangements. Since 1980, the LHCO has enriched the community with the beauty of accessible classical music. Under the baton of Dr. Yuri Ivan, the LHCO brings free performances to venues throughout the Twin Cities, including the Lake Harriet Bandshell, local churches, and senior living communities. Their overarching goal is to make orchestral music accessible to all. LHCO is collaborating with "The Voices of Experience Choir," which is a partnership between MacPhail and the Minnesota Chorale. This group is made up of adults over the age of 55 who want to be a part of a community of musicians, singing a variety of choral repertoire from genres such as classical, popular, folk and jazz.
