Music in the Museum: Cottletown brings pioneer music to Yesterfest

Bastrop’s iconic Yesterfest event is staging a comeback on May 20, 2023 in historic Downtown Bastrop with the pioneer music band, Cottletown, performing live for a FREE Music in the Museum event at the Bastrop History Museum, 904 Main St ., Bastrop Tx, 78602

Event Date/Time: Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 1PM to 3PM

Cottletown is (from left)Michael Redmond, Craig Behn, and Walter Winslett who have over 150 combined years of music experience. They play a collection of all-Americana songs on a variety of instruments including the saw, old-time fiddle and bass banjo. All of them multi-instrumentalists, they change acoustic instruments as often as they change songs.

Music in the Museum is a Yesterfest event

May is National Historic Preservation Month, and Yesterfest, a uniquely Bastrop event with over 27-years of history, will again draw tourists and local residents to historic Downtown Bastrop following a more than 5-year hiatus. Yesterfest 2023 proposes to highlight Bastrop’s diverse history for visitors through historical reenactors, pioneer-skilled demonstrators, vendors, speakers, story tellers, and music. The event will engage visitors with a circa 1830s saloon and bowling alley, a Native American camp complete with teepee, a blacksmith demonstration, vendors along Pine Street, acoustic music performances, and a Soap Box stand showcasing story tellers and speakers.

For the event attendee, begin at the Bastrop County Historical Society Museum & Visitor Center at 904 Main Street, collect a program/map of the event, stroll through the Bastrop Museum and enjoy a live performance of pioneer music by the talented, local band, Cottletown. Now, steeped in Bastrop history, step outside and see pioneer spirit come alive along Pine and Water Streets. Visit with vendors selling homemade goods; see reenactments and demonstrations; listen to laidback homespun music; listen to storytellers and speakers on topics that recall the days of yesteryear and teach sustainable life-skill practices. Enjoy Bastrop’s historic downtown vibe filled with contemporary restaurants and trend-setting shops.
