Journeyman songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Edward David Anderson has been with us before -- but this time has a new album, Still the River, to share with us. The Backyard Tire Fire veteran is churning out solo work now on his own record label, Black Dirt Records.
Take a listen:
This DIY project was funded by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, Anderson notes.
It was self-produced and engineered on his homestead in Havana IL in a small shed designed by Anderson that sits on a foundation laid by Ed & friend.
He makes most of the sounds on the album himself (with mixing engineer Adam Gardner lending a capable hand) and even snapped the cover pic.
From the first line “Evening primrose in August, bee balm in July,” to a rollicking road trip from Atlanta to Havana, we’re transported to a land of “hardwood floors and dollar stores” where gangsters once hunted ducks by day and hit the casinos at night, Anderson writes.
On the final track he vows “I’m gonna shine my light all around…” and delivers in that instant and throughout the entirety of this beautiful recording.
Still the River is a compelling snapshot of a transformative moment in a musical journey that spans three decades.
