"Different Ships, Same Boat" is an Arts for Social Cohesion Production presented by the Guy Mendilow Ensemble + Massachusetts Inaugural Poet Laureate and former Poetry Slam Champion Regie Gibson.
When Martin Luther King, Jr. stated, “We may have all come on different ships, but we are in the same boat now,” America was in turmoil, debating WHO is considered a REAL American. Recent events and the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, provide an chance to pause and reflect on a critical question: What does it mean to love and celebrate not just America, but all Americans?
This interactive, multidisciplinary performance combines powerful spoken word, music and song to explore this question through personal stories brought to life through powerful spoken word, musical score and song—to enable civic healing.
Cosponsored by Margo and Jacob z”l Engelstein; The Sephardic Studies Program and the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Washington; and made possible in part with support from Creative West and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Reserved seating | Doors open 30m for Happy Hour in the J Cafe before the show
