Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts partners with the historic venue Casa Feliz to present a series of concerts "Music at the Casa"! Please note this show is being held at Casa Feliz, in conjunction with Blue Bamboo.
Tonight's performance includes Dimas Sánchez- drums/percussion, Mariano Morales- piano, Marco Bojorquez- bass, and Jorge Malave - sax.
Dimas Sánchez, an accomplished drummer and percussionist hailing from Puerto Rico, currently calls Orlando, FL home. His musical journey has been shaped by the guidance of seasoned mentors such as Tony Sánchez, Keith Copeland, Ignacio Berroa, Ángel “Cachete” Maldonado, and others. In the 80s, he immersed himself in the rich tapestry of Afro-Puerto Rican folklore under the tutelage of Jesús Cepeda, Petra Cepeda, and Don Rafael Cepeda.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dimas has collaborated with a diverse spectrum of musicians and groups, including the Xavier Cougat Orchestra, Taller de Jazz Don Pedro, David Sánchez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Eddie “GuaGua” Rivera, Milly Puente, Gabriel Hernandez, Nestor Torres, Chuchito Valdes, and many more. His musical repertoire extends to playing and producing Latin Jazz recordings with Eddie “GuaGua” Rivera's “Opus Mundi,” his own group “Fusion Beat,” and his latest endeavor, the “Afro Latin Jazz Project.”
Noteworthy festival appearances dot Dimas's career, with highlights including Mundo Latino in Paris (Tito Puente Jr), SunFest in West Palm Beach, Clearwater Jazz Festival (David Sánchez) , San Francisco Black and White Ball (Tito Puente Jr), The Mastercard Jazz Festival in San Juan (David Sánchez) , Jacksonville Jazz Festival (with David Sánchez), Taste of 4th Ave in Birmingham, Alabama (with David Sánchez), and Toros y Salsa in Dax, France (Iba a Se). With his own groups, he has graced stages at Ventana al Jazz Orlando, Pensacola Jazz Festival, Tallahassee Jazz Festival, Swan City Jazz Festival, Orange County’s Mayor Jazz in the Park, and the Timucua Arts World Music Weekends.
Dimas is not only a performer but also a dedicated educator, actively participating in percussion clinics and master classes. His notable involvement in the "Contemporary Drums and Percussion Summer Camp" at the University of Central Florida saw him share the stage with luminaries like Horacio “El Negro” Hernández and Alex Acuña. His commitment to teaching led him to clinics at Punto Fijo, Centro de Bellas Artes, alongside Jesús Cepeda, and a Latin percussion clinic with drummer Marty Morell at the “Timucua Arts Foundation.” Additionally, he conducted a concert/master class for the Al Downing Tampa Jazz Association, a master class for the “Diablo Marino Group” in Tokyo, Japan in 2019, and a percussion workshop at the renowned Havana Amadeo Roldan Conservatory. Notably, Dimas has also authored a book titled “Afro Puerto Rican Rhythms.”
